How to get licensed
in WA.

These are the steps Department of Transport (DoT) WA requires to become an authorised driving instructor in Western Australia. Requirements are subject to change — always confirm current details with Department of Transport (DoT) WA directly.

    Hold a WA driver licence with at least 3 continuous years' experience in the vehicle class taught

    Complete a TLI41225 Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training, recognised by the WA Department of Transport (DoT)

    Pass a medical fitness assessment and police character check

  • 4

    Submit an Application for Instructor's Licence to the DoT with your certificate, police certificate, and character references
