How to get licensed
in TAS.

These are the steps Department of State Growth (Roads and Infrastructure) requires to become an authorised driving instructor in Tasmania. Requirements are subject to change — always confirm current details with Department of State Growth (Roads and Infrastructure) directly.

    Hold an Australian driver licence (non-learner/provisional) for at least 3 years, including the year immediately prior to applying

  • 2

    Complete a TLI41225 Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training

  • 3

    Submit an application for the Ancillary Certificate in Driving Instruction

  • 4

    Have no criminal, traffic, drug, alcohol-related or theft convictions within the last 5 years

  • 5

    Drive an approved dual-control training vehicle
