How to get licensed
in SA.

These are the steps Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT SA) requires to become an authorised driving instructor in South Australia. Requirements are subject to change — always confirm current details with Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT SA) directly.

    Hold an unconditional SA car licence for at least 2 years, or an Australian/approved-country licence for 4 years, with no disqualifications

    Complete a TLI41225 Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training

  • 3

    Pass the Road Rules Theory Test for Driving Instructors

  • 4

    Pass a national police check and Working with Children Check (or statutory declaration)

  • 5

    Pass a medical and eyesight certificate

  • 6

    Submit a Motor Driving Instructor's Licence application to Service SA and complete a Regulator Assessment
