How to get licensed
in QLD.

These are the steps Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) requires to become an authorised driving instructor in Queensland. Requirements are subject to change — always confirm current details with Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) directly.

    Hold a valid open driver licence for at least 1 continuous year immediately prior to applying

  • 2

    Complete a TLI41225 Certificate IV in Motor Vehicle Driver Training

  • 3

    Pass traffic and criminal history checks

  • 4

    Hold a Suitability Card (Blue Card) from the Public Safety Business Agency

  • 5

    Obtain approval from the Chief Executive of the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR)

  • 6

    Drive a dual-control vehicle approved by TMR
